Everyone online is joking about World War 3… but honestly I think people are genuinely scared now

The craziest part about the latest US-Iran situation is how normal it’s starting to feel online. Missile headlines. War updates. Oil prices. Military videos. Breaking news every few hours. And somehow social media turns all of it into memes within minutes. At first even I was joking about it with friends. “World War 3 loading.” “Bro stock up fuel.” “Internet historians about to get content.” But honestly… after a point it stopped feeling funny. Because when you actually sit quietly and think about everything happening globally right now, it genuinely feels like the world has become emotionally unstable. One day it’s war headlines. Next day it’s economic panic. Then emergency alerts. Then another country threatening retaliation. And we’re consuming all of this while still trying to attend college, go to work, reply to emails, pay rent, and pretend life is normal. I think people underestimate how mentally exhausting constant global tension becomes after a while. Especially for Gen Z. We grew up during pandemics, layoffs, inflation, wars, AI fear, climate anxiety, and nonstop doom-scrolling. Our brains genuinely never get a break anymore. And the scariest part is that nobody even processes news properly now. People just refresh timelines every few minutes waiting for the next scary update. I saw videos today of people casually discussing: fuel shortages, nuclear threats, global escalation, economic collapse… like it’s normal daily conversation. That honestly scared me more than the headlines themselves. Because I think many people are secretly anxious right now but acting emotionally numb online to cope with it. Does anyone else feel mentally exhausted from constantly living through “historic events” every few months now?

Honestly, constantly consuming fear-based news will mentally drain anyone after a point. It’s important to stay informed, but not so informed that your nervous system never gets a chance to feel safe again. Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is put the phone down for a while, reconnect with real life around you, and remind yourself that doom-scrolling is not the same as preparing for the future.
